Description

This coffee table was created by Warren Platner for the publishing house Knoll International in 1966. This architect/designer founded Platner Associates and stood out for his graceful creations, exploring furniture, lighting, and textile design. His famous Platner Collection, designed in 1966 in collaboration with Knoll, blends architecture and industrial design with elegant and intricate cylindrical steel bases.

This piece embodies the design of the 1960s with its rounded and organic shapes. Furniture designers and architects of the era embraced modern techniques and materials, such as steel and glass, to mass-produce furniture through industrial production methods. The steel wire base is chromed and intricately bent and welded to resemble a sheaf of wheat. A circular glass tabletop rests on it. There are signs of wear due to age and use, adding to its character.
