Description

The 'Teckel' armchair by Michel Mortier was created for the French publisher Steiner in 1963. M.M graduated in 1944 from the School of Applied Arts under the guidance of Louis Sognot, René Gabriel, and Étienne-Henri Martin. He took on various roles, working at the Studium du Louvre and Le Bon Marché in Brussels. At the age of 24, he was appointed as the head of the design office at Marcel Gascoin's, a crucial moment in the designer's life as he would meet Pierre Guariche and Joseph-André Motte, who would become his future collaborators and, most importantly, friends. This trio, united by their common ideas, decided to found ARP (Atelier de Recherche Plastique) in 1954, one of the first French designer collectives. They worked together for three years for various publishers such as Steiner, Diderot, or Airborne before establishing their respective design studios. He founded the agency Habitation-Esthétique Industrielle-Mobilier in 1959, with which he continued his collaboration with Steiner, emphasizing woodwork.

The Teckel is no longer in production to this day.

The Teckel features a cubic base made up of four teak slats joined together with dovetail joints. The seat and backrest are formed using a tubular metal frame, onto which a curved plywood panel covered with foam is placed. It has two armrests with a gentle curve, providing comfortable support to the user. The entire piece is upholstered in copper-colored velvet.

In very good condition, completely reupholstered in our workshop.
