Description
The «Universal» chair, designed by Joe Colombo in 1967, was the first chair to be entirely injection-molded in a single piece of ABS plastic, a groundbreaking innovation in terms of production that opened up new creative possibilities for designers. Produced by Kartell since 1971, its radical and futuristic aesthetic, a hallmark of the Italian designer, allowed it to make a timeless mark in the history of design. While this model is no longer in production today, it went through several editions. The second version was made from polyamide and produced only between 1974 and 1975. The third version, made of polypropylene, has been available since 1975 in a range of vibrant colors.
Its structure is composed of a single piece of ABS plastic, featuring simple, rounded forms that make stacking the chairs easy. The backrest has an opening at its base, which serves as a handle when the chairs are stacked. The base is modular, allowing the removal of all four legs to convert it into a child’s chair or the addition of extensions to create a bar stool. In very good condition, fully restored in our workshop. En très bon état, entièrement restauré dans notre atelier.
