Description

The B306 continuous-adjustment chaise longue, also known as "the machine for rest," is a reclining chair designed by Charlotte Perriand for Le Corbusier, which is why it is commonly attributed to the architect. However, this chair is officially signed by all three authors, Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier, and Pierre Jeanneret. It was not until the late 2010's that the design of this major piece of 20th-century furniture design was recognized as the work of Charlotte Perriand. Inspired by Dr. Pascaud's variable inclination armchair and Thonet's rocking chair, Charlotte Perriand innovated by using materials of her time, linked to modernity and industry, drawing shapes and resources directly from aviation and automobiles. From 1964, the Italian company Cassina became the exclusive publisher of the chaise longue and named it the LC4.
