Description
The «Serpentine» sofa was created by designer Vladimir Kagan for Kagan NYC in the 1950s. Born in Germany, Vladimir Kagan grew up in a family-owned woodworking business in the United States, where his father was already a craftsman. Guided by an organic artistic approach, he pushed the boundaries of traditional furniture to create unique pieces, true works of art that transform the atmosphere of a room. His legacy continues to inspire designers worldwide, making him an icon of contemporary design.
This sofa’s S-shaped design allows for freedom of movement all around, breaking away from the classical notion of a sofa against a wall. Its organic design also encourages conversations. Designed for mobile use, this sofa promotes movement rather than favoring prolonged static positions. This creation dates back to the 1950s, a time when furniture was often understated, functional, and devoid of embellishments. This sofa stands out for its innovative and avant-garde approach, making it almost timeless. Its contemporary form allows it to adapt to different styles and eras, making it a truly timeless piece of furniture.
The structure of this sofa is made of wood and upholstered with polyurethane foam. The legs are crafted from brushed aluminum, consisting of two circles at the ends of the seat and a central rod. Its covering is done with a beige boucle fabric.
